September Seasonality

There have been numerous articles in the financial media lately mentioning how September has historically been the weakest month in the year for stock market performance. So far, September has gotten off to an excellent start.

If you look at the data closer, most of the September weakness has occurred the last half of the month. The first few days of the month (pre Labor Day) has historically been positive.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see stock market weakness next week. October has normally been a strong month at this point in the election cycle, so weakness for the rest of September would be a good setup to buy for a pre-election rally.
